How to store a montage in the VP2/3 recorder for stand-alone use.
It is possible to store up to four so-called DEF-files in the recorder. The DEF-file is the part of the Columbus Montage File (CMF-file) that defines the recorder settings (so without the viewing screen information and so on, because that information is not useful for the recorder).
Having the possibility of storing these files in the recorder is useful when you want to start several different recordings in the field without having a PC. In that case you select the required DEF-file in the menu system for the recorder and you set it as the so-called "Active DEF-file". From that moment on, recordings are started using the settings in this DEF-file.
When you want to store your current CMF-file from Columbus into the recorder as a DEF-file, you proceed as follows:
- Make sure to have opened the right Columbus Montage File.
- Select "Remote Control" and then click the "Def-file" button
- Select the memory place (1 to 4) where you want to sore the DEF-file. Select the "Program" option.
- Now click the "Send" button. The DEF-file is programmed.
- If you want to set a DEF-file as the "Active" DEF-file at start-up of the recorder, you need to select it and then click the "Set Active" button.
Using File | Import montage | Load from recorder... even allows you to load the DEF file that is stored in a recorder into your Columbus software.
